As we mark Global Recycling Day this March 18th, we’re proud to showcase how our services are contributing to a more sustainable construction industry in Wales and beyond from state-of-the-art equipment to sustainable cycles.
At the heart of our operation lies a commitment to innovative recycling solutions. One of our flagship projects takes place at the Celsa UK steelworks in Cardiff, where we transform steelmaking by-products into high-quality construction aggregates. Through our specialised crushing and screening processes, materials that would otherwise be considered waste are given new life in the construction industry.
Meanwhile, at Hinkley Point C we’re working to maximise resource efficiency through our recycling operations. By crushing and screening temporary structures on-site to create suitable fill material, we’re eliminating the need for additional material imports whilst extending the lifespan of existing resources. This innovative approach to material management demonstrates how recycling can deliver both environmental and practical benefits to major infrastructure projects.
Central to our recycling operation is our Terex Ecotec TTS620T Tracked Trommel Screen, purchased from Molson Group. This advanced screening system operates at a low RPM whilst maintaining high productivity, significantly reducing fuel consumption, emissions, and noise pollution. The machine’s efficient hydraulic drive system ensures optimal performance while minimising environmental impact – aligning with our sustainability goals. You can spot two of our trommel screens in the image below.
The process is remarkably efficient. As the steelworks creates steel [and its by-products], our on-site crushing and screening equipment processes these materials into various sized aggregates. Since our recent investment in a bagging plant, we now sell these aggregates in tonne bags as well as in loose form. Contact our team for more information [details at end of blog].
These recycled products then make their way to construction projects across the region, reducing the need for virgin materials and minimising waste sent to landfill.
This approach to industrial recycling delivers multiple environmental benefits: reduced landfill usage, minimal need for raw material extraction, and a lower transportation carbon footprint as materials are processed on-site. Our use of fuel-efficient machinery like the TTS620T further enhances these environmental credentials, supporting the circular economy in Wales and helping construction projects meet their sustainability targets.
We’re constantly exploring new ways to process different types of industrial by-products, helping more businesses turn their waste streams into valuable resources.
Whether you’re a business looking to manage your industrial by-products more sustainably or a construction company seeking recycled aggregates, we have the expertise and equipment to help. Get in touch with our team to learn more: email Anna anna@grplant.co.uk or call Gareth on 07970521552.
